Chairman Mao had similar policies, as did Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini.
Mugabe, the Taliban and Kim Jung Il are likewise protected from public scrutiny.

After all, what good is democracy with a variance of opinions? Pretty soon people may believe different things and no good can come from such shenanigans... just ask the judges on America Idol.
